The Faces of Convergence
June’s Employee of the Month- Rick Powell

Rick was born and raised in Central Oregon. Being the son of a logger and growing up on a ranch, he was taught about work ethic and self reliance. He graduated from Crook County High School in 1988 and immediately went into the Navy. After attending USN Basic Submarine School and later on to Strategic Weapons Electronics (SWS) “A” School and Electronics Technician (ET) CNC “C” School (Central Navigation Computer) he became a Navigation Electronics tech onboard the USS George C. Marshall out of Holy Loch Scotland. Rick is a Gulf War Veteran, earning 4 letters of commendation from Admiral of COMSUBGRU 2, and he’s logged 557 days underwater. After the Navy, Rick was fortunate to find work in the technology field and spent 10 years as an IT consultant, including working for the international consulting firm, Hudson Williams, in New York City before moving back to Oregon to take on a position of IT Director for Alaska Tanker Co. where he ran a department of IT professionals. In 2003, Rick went in a whole new direction with his life and bought a struggling Hydrovac Excavation Company in Seattle, Washinton. He revived that company and sold it. After selling the company his wife was starting to wonder if he was ever going to go back to work so he took a position with First Horizon Home loans as a Sales manager and Business Development Manger. Unfortunately the last year or so has not been so kind to the mortgage industry, so he returned to IT, where he found his place with us.
In his off time, Rick is husband to his beautiful wife, Sheila, a father to 4 kids and 1 foster daughter, and he loves college football (Boise State), golf, fishing, camping and boating.
