Newsletter October 2008
CEO Corner

Reflections
This week marks the middle of October. The middle of October-that means October is already half-way over. We only have two months left, and then 2008 is a wrap. Looking back over the last year, I realized a whole lot has happened. Here at Convergence, we’ve retooled our Service Desk to provide better support, assigning dedicated teams to each client. We’ve given each of our clients their own phone number that routes directly to their support team. We’ve created a Network Operations Center to enhance our ability to monitor networks and provide history making customer service . And all of these major changes were completed in a year in which external events dominate the headlines, from the upcoming elections to an economic situation that’s on everyone’s mind. Yet, as I considered all these changes, internal and external, I realized there were a lot of things we do that generally pass unnoticed. Despite the lack of fanfare, these things are the ones that help define who we are and what we’re trying to accomplish.
Last weekend we had our annual Convergence Pumpkin Patch in preparation for Halloween. I realize as I’m writing this you might be asking yourself how do you have a “pumpkin patch?” Well, it would be more accurate to say we actually had our pumpkin patch event . Every year we all gather at the pumpkin patch to select our pumpkins for Halloween, barbecue, and generally, just have a friendly, relaxed gathering that is not all about work. There are tractor rides, a costume contest, and contests for the kids. This year we even had horseback rides on a Clydesdale! All in all, it was a beautiful day, and we spent it together like a big extended family. After it was all over on Saturday, I sat back reflecting on the day, remembering the happy faces, the smiles, and the fun. What a way to spend a Saturday, and what a way to remember the year! There were lots of crazy things going on this year in business and the economy, but all of them were secondary for a while on Saturday. The distractions faded into the background for a time as we all concentrated on just enjoying ourselves.
That’s the message of this month’s CEO Corner: no matter what’s going on around you, no matter how crazy and hectic things get (or how hopeless or discouraging they look), there is always time to take a breather, to reflect on the simple pleasures and companionship, and to simply enjoy the here and now. Our coworkers are our friends, and sometimes it’s a whole lot more meaningful when we remember that. We can’t all have a pumpkin patch, but we sure could use it. If your company has a novel fun event you’d like us to mention, drop us a line. We’ll include it in a follow-up article, spreading the idea (and hopefully a little fun), maybe offering a little time for reflection for all of us.
If it’s not autumn, it’s coming soon.

Enjoy the Fall weather and Happy Halloween!
